Ahh, August. That phrase can be inturpated in two ways:
"Ahh, August." As in the pleasure of it being a new month full of wonderful possibilities
OR
"Ahh! AUGUST!" As in the fear of returning to school.
Honestly, I don't know which statement I'm trying to convey here. This summer has probably been the best summer I've had for a long time and I've had many moments that I wouldn't trade for anything. But I'm looking forward to going back to school because of some exciting things that can happen through my project's I've planned, internships, and my first taste of college. Then there's the fear of having a repeat of last school year, in all of it's craptastic glory. For those who might be reading this that go to my school (as I know several of you who are reading this probably do) it wasn't because of you guys, it was mainly because of personal crap. Mental breakdowns and the like.
But moving on, another thing that I am truly looking forward to this month is August 8th. 'Why that Day' you ask? Simple. I discovered the most spectacular Holiday ever. "Sneak some Zucchini onto your Neighbor's Porch" Day. Hells. Yes. I researched it a little and found the following quote in an article about the day:
Established by Pennsylvanian Tom Roy, this day encourages sharing. "Due to the overzealous planting of zucchini, citizens are asked to drop off baskets of the squash on neighbors' doorsteps."
Seriously, what could be a better way to get rid of the blasted zucchini than pushing it off on your defenseless neighbors?! (And yes, I do think that Zucchini is of the devil.) And lucky me, my parents have a Zucchini plant in our backyard. Score, all the zucchini I could want to place on neighbor's porches. Victory for Tamara.
Now onto the topic of Speed Dating... CHURCH speed dating. Oh, how it was grand. There were people I didn't know, spoons, blood, and HOME BAKED COOKIES. Basically, I went to youth group last night to find that they set up a bunch of tables with chairs and everything. I then found out that we were supposed to sit at a table with people we didn't know. I ended up at a table with all guys and one girl. Then... they passed out the spoons and card decks. Yes, that's right, we played SPOONS! I just want to know who's bright idea it was to have 'bonding time' with people we didn't know then give us the means to play a violent game. I guess nothing says 'bonding' like picking spoon shards out of someone's arm (which is what happened). I even managed to get a cut from one of the cards... that came from a different table (seriously... wtf?). I can not lie, it was intense.
After we finished all the games, they then gave us cookies and we happily ate them while talking about how funny it was when one guy managed to split a spoon in half the long way down. I found that I had actually gotten to know the guy sitting next to me quite well. Half the time we were shooting sarcastic comments at each other which is what I consider true friendship (it was all in good fun).
